"You can't shoot me! I have a very low threshold of death. My doctor says I can't have bullets enter my body at any time. I-I, eh, eh, oh, oh, what if I said I was pregnant?"

Jimmy Bond (also known as Dr. Noah) is a fictional British intelligence operative, nephew of Sir James Bond, and secretly the head of SMERSH. The character appeared in the unofficial 1967 spoof James Bond film Casino Royale and was portrayed by Woody Allen with an American accent.

History[]

A former British agent assigned to the Caribbean and the mastermind behind most of the events of Casino Royale, Jimmy Bond is the bumbling nephew of renowned super-spy Sir James Bond. He masquerades as the mysterious and silhouetted Dr. Noah (an intentional play on Ian Fleming's characters Dr. No and Blofeld), running the evil organisation SMERSH from his hidden base under Casino Royale. A constant disappointment to his famous uncle, Jimmy has developed a severe inferiority complex due to his small stature and is even unable to speak in Sir James' presence. Consequently, he engineers several attempts on the life and reputation of his uncle throughout the film; culminating in the kidnapping of his estranged daughter Mata Bond to lure the spy to his casino.

The Detainer is captured by Jimmy Bond/Dr. Noah, and taken to his lair. She works her way into his affections and persuades him to release him. She finds out that he has a plan to replace all the heads of government with robots, and use biological warfare to make all women beautiful and kill all men over 4' 6" (1.37 m) tall, leaving him as the "big man" who gets all the girls. She also sees that he has a convincing, if somewhat monotone, robotic double of her already.

The Detainer manages to persuade Jimmy into taking a drink which contains a pill resembling an Aspirin, but which is in fact a minature nuclear bomb. After numerous minor explosions, i.e. hiccoughs, it will produce a big nuclear explosion.

At the end of the film Sir James and Moneypenny travel to Casino Royale to rescue Mata Bond. They discover that the casino is located atop a giant underground headquarters run by the evil Dr. Noah, secretly Sir James' nephew Jimmy Bond, a former MI6 agent who defected to SMERSH to spite his famous uncle. Sir James, Moneypenny, Mata and Coop manage to escape from their cell and fight their way back to the Casino Director's office where Sir James establishes Vesper Lynd is a double agent. The casino is then overrun by secret agents and a battle ensues. American and French support arrive, but just add to the chaos. Eventually, the atomic pill which Jimmy was duped into swallowing explodes, destroying Casino Royale with everyone inside. Sir James Bond; Moneypenny and all of her allies then appear in heaven, playing golden harps. Jimmy Bond/Dr Noah however goes on a eleavator going down to hell.

Behind the Scenes[]

  • The very first on screen adaptation of Bond was called Jimmy Bond, and turned into an American. This was in the previous 1954 adaptation of Casino Royale.
  • Some fan theories have suggested that Miss Moneypenny in Casino Royale is also James Bond's daughter, however this is never directly hinted at. This would make her Mata Bond's half-sister, and Jimmy Bond's cousin.
  • Casino Royale was one of Woody Allen's earliest film outings. The first being What's New Pussycat?', which shares a lot of the tone of CR, along with a number of actors including Ursula Andress, and Burt Bacharach.
  • Many of Jimmy Bond's lines are ad-libbed and so have a very Woody Allen flavour to them.
  • The idea of James Bond having a nephew was used for James Bond Jr. (1967 character) and again in 1991 as the premise of an unrelated American animated television series, James Bond Jr.
  • A character called Jimmy also appears in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen as a villain and is a parody of the James Bond character.
  • Star Trek Deep Space Nine epsiode 4/9 "Our Man Basher" has Dr Basher in a 1960's James Bond holodeck fantasy until a trasporter malfuction casues several of Deep Space Nine personel to be accidently part of the evil Hologramns! Commander Sisko becaomes evil "Dr Noah" who plans to flood the world and then repopulate it!
