John Rhys-Davies is a Welsh actor who has appeared in numerous film and television productions over the years. Among the best known of these are his roles as Gimli in The Lord of the Rings trilogy from 2001 to 2003 and Sallah in two Indiana Jones films; Raiders of the Lost Ark from 1981 and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989, in which he appeared opposite Sean Connery, Alison Doody and Julian Glover. In 1987 he appeared as General Leonid Pushkin, the head of the KGB, in the James Bond film The Living Daylights.
